Methodology & Sources

Last updated: 7 May 2026

Calorize provides health and nutrition calculations based on peer-reviewed scientific research. This page lists the sources behind every calculator and assessment in the app. Calorize is an informational tool — it is not a medical device, and its outputs do not constitute medical advice. Always consult a licensed healthcare professional before making decisions about diet, exercise, or supplementation.

1. Calorie and macronutrient calculations

The onboarding flow estimates Basal Metabolic Rate (BMR), Total Daily Energy Expenditure (TDEE), and recommended macronutrient targets (protein, fat, carbohydrates).

BMR — Mifflin-St Jeor equation

Activity multipliers (TDEE)

  • Helms ER, Aragon AA, Fitschen PJ. Evidence-based recommendations for natural bodybuilding contest preparation: nutrition and supplementation. J Int Soc Sports Nutr. 2014;11:20. PubMed: 24864135

2. Peptide dose calculator

The peptide calculator converts a target dose (mg or mcg) into volume (mL) and insulin syringe units, given vial strength and reconstitution volume. The math is standard pharmacology — the calculator does not recommend doses, only converts user-entered values into syringe markings.

Reconstitution and dose-volume calculation

  • BD (Becton Dickinson). Insulin syringe specifications: U-100 syringes calibrated at 1 unit = 0.01 mL; U-40 syringes calibrated at 1 unit = 0.025 mL. Manufacturer reference, used for unit↔volume conversion in both standards. bd.com

Important: Many peptides are not approved by the FDA, EMA, or other regulators for general use. Calorize provides a dose calculator and educational information only. Always consult a licensed physician before initiating any peptide therapy.

3. Food Cravings Assessment

The Food Noise Index test included in Calorize is adapted from the Yale Food Addiction Scale (YFAS) and its later short-form revision. It is a self-screening instrument — not a clinical diagnostic tool. A high score indicates patterns consistent with food addiction; it does not establish a diagnosis.

Important: Food addiction is a research construct under active scientific debate. Self-assessment results are not a diagnosis. If you have concerns about disordered eating, please consult a qualified clinician.
